One of the biggest aspects of my art business is creating special commissions for clients. Many of the pieces I have created in recent years have been personally designed with very special meanings in mind. I am willing to spend personal time talking with clients about what they have in mind, and what they most want to achieve with an illustration, whether it’s for their personal collections or gifts.
For example, I’ve drawn everything from pictures of childhood homes, special locales and favorite streets to neighborhood scenes, city skylines, country scenes, farms and even pets.
The featured image above of Love Park was the site of someone’s engagement. The wife special ordered the drawing to give to her husband during the holidays
The image of the bench, brickwork and street lamp (left) was based on the scene of a first date that led to a very happy marriage. One of the spouses commissioned this 8×10-inch illustration for the other as a surprise.
These special commissions can be created in a range of sizes and subjects, including homes, hotels, travel destinations, streets, neighborhoods, restaurants, bars, colleges and universities, and more.
The image (below right) is an illustration of a country inn that the owners commissioned to hang prominently in the destination. The illustration alone measures 14×17 inches – and is now displayed in the communal area of this beautiful farmhouse bed and breakfast.
I’ve also recently created a series of illustrations for a collector that focuses specifically on her neighborhood. The trio of drawings she ordered includes a view of her street showing the family home, as well as views from her rooftop deck. The three images – created in multiple sizes – were designed based on the space she had available in her home. They are now displayed in the entryway where they attract plenty of attention.
