WORD ART

My word art series started out small but has expanded into poem paintings and repetitive graffiti style writing on vessels and other materials. I love the idea of using words and phrases in repetition (as if to see the words in a new way or even a twist on the old-school punishment of writing the same phrase over and over again on the chalkboard at school)), particularly on materials that are upcycled. Whether wood, drawers or reclaimed vessels, all of the materials possess a history that I build atop of; the way the words are painted enriches the way they are seen/read with purposeful breaks, circles and underlines.

I write most of the poetics on these, but I also draw from music and pop culture.

Ultimately, I’d like to create entire room installations with furniture and make even larger word art pieces. Stay tuned!
