My upcycled vessel series is expanding with many new objects each week. The goal of this series to reclaim items that I can turn into new, original works of art. While I am not interested in making new objects as a sculptor, I am driven to use pieces that already exist to create a new form of art as a painter. I often find these pieces in thrift and discount stores. Sometimes I trash pick them. I always welcome hearing from people who may want to donate potential pieces to the project.
I’m particularly excited about finding and painting antique-style porcelain and ceramic vessels (like the urns and tea pots from China), ones with intricate patterns and even religious iconography. Being able to apply contemporary art on these has been an important part of the series. I hope to showcase more of these in their entirety later this year.
