I created an original mixed media piece recently that was inspired by both John Varvatos and the legendary CBGBs in New York City.
As you may know, the famous live music club closed and the designer later took over the space. After purchasing a pair of boots, I decided to use the partly deconstructed box to pay tribute the bands and artists who once played at CBGBs in its heyday. I wanted the text art to reflect a set list or even graffiti.
To add to the work on paper and cardboard, I attached nails to the piece. I thought they looked a bit like wires coming from amps or even the way loose threads tend to happen on fabric. The piece is really a tribute to both music and fashion.
Happy to report the art quickly sold to an avid art collector and music enthusiast.
