I’ve been experimenting with new paintings on found materials that I can upcycle into art in a more sustainable way. They are unique to anything I have ever painted.
The first, PRETTY + BROKE, is inspired by 90s music – bands like Hole, that exemplified the idea of a trash glamour. I found a decorative 3D bust of a woman within an antique frame that I loved. I knew it would make the perfect backdrop to this thematic panting.
The second, LOW LIFE, celebrates the culture of low-rent motels, famous hotels and flophouses with a nod to poets like Charles Bukowski. I used an old chalkboard in the shape of a house to create the basis for the piece.
While both pieces tend to delve into darker aspects of pop culture, I purposely painted them with the brightest colors in my palette.
